The UFC heads to Sunrise, Florida for tonights UFC on FX 3 event. Headlining the event is an exciting flyweight rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall.
You're not going to find a lot of the big names that the casual UFC fans are familiar with on this card, but for those who follow MMA, you know there are plenty of good matchups for this card on FX.
Here is how I see the main card playing out:
Eddie Wineland (18-8-1) vs. Scott Jorgensen (13-5)
Eddie Wineland is looking to avoid the first three fight losing streak of his career. A loss would give him an 0-3 record within the UFC and put his roster spot on the hot seat.
With a win, Scott Jorgensen would catapult himself into a top 3 contender status in the bantamweight division.
Jorgensen always puts up a good fight. Of his five losses, four have come by decision. I expect this matchup against Wineland to also go to a decision.
Both fighters have a terrific ground game which is where I anticipate this fight going early on in the fight.
Wineland has the edge in striking, but this fight has all the signs of a grueling battle for position on the ground.
Prediction: Scott Jorgensen via unanimous decision
Mike Pyle (22-8) vs. Josh Neer 33-10)
Josh Neer has been one of the most exciting fighters to watch as of late. He comes into this fight against Pyle riding a six fight winning streak. Five of those six wins have come in the first round.
Mike Pyle is a submission specialist. Seventy-three percent of Pyle's wins have come via submission and he will want to try and get Neer on the ground as soon as possible.
Neer is also a great fighter on the ground and has 12 submission victories of his own in his professional MMA career. Unfortunately for Pyle, Neer has a huge edge in the striking department.
I believe this fight will end in one of two ways. Pyle will submit Neer, or Neer will knock Pyle out. I don't envision this going to a decision.
Prediction: Josh Neer via TKO (Round 2)
Erick Silva (13-2-1) vs. Charlie Brenneman (15-3)
Erick Silva is coming off a very controversial loss in which he was disqualified for punching the back of his opponents head. After Dana White looked at the replay it became evident that an error was made in that decision and Silva was awarded his win bonus. White also stated the UFC would recognize Silva has winning that fight, even if the State Athletic Commission does not.
Charlie Brenneman burst onto the UFC scene when he took a fight against Rick Story on just a few hour's notice last June. Brenneman ended up winning that fight and is currently holding a 4-2 record inside the UFC.
If you're looking for a slugfest, this fight is not for you. Both Silva and Brenneman are very technical ground fighters and will most likely spend the majority of their time on the ground.
Look for this fight to go to the cards and end in a very close decision.
Prediction: Charlie Brenneman via split decision
Demetrious Johnson (14-2-1) vs. Ian McCall (11-2-1)
If you haven't had the opportunity to check out UFC's flyweight division, please do yourself a favor and watch this fight. I promise you will be hooked.
Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson was originally awarded a win after his fight against Ian "Uncle Creepy" McCall just three months ago. However, after reviewing the judges' scorecards it became evident that the scores were calculated incorrectly and the decision was corrected to be a draw.
These fighters are so evenly matched. Both have good stand up and ground games. Look for these two men to go at it much like they did in their first fight. It will be extremely fast paced and exciting, but inevitably will lead to a five round decision.
The winner of this fight will face Joseph Benavidez for the UFC Flyweight Championship.
Prediction: Ian McCall via split decision

All I really care about on this fight card is McCall getting the W. i think you are looking at another great fight on that one.

Wow, those first two fights really surprised me. Especially Neer getting knocked out by Pyle. Let's see if the last two fights on the card will help me save face.
Hope you guys are enjoying the fights on FX. The prelims on Fuel and Facebook were horrible.
Next up: Erick Silva and Charlie Brenneman, followed by the Main Event.

Wow, Silva beats Brenneman by first round submission. That brings my predictions to 0-3 on the night.
On the bright side, isn't it just as hard to choose the losers as it is the winners?

There you have it guys. Finished 0-4 on the night. I jinxed the Spurs last week and every single UFC fighter I picked for tonight.
Who wants a jinx from me?

That was a very entertaining card. Who had Pyle knocking out Neer? Couldn't believe it. I also didn't do well on my picks but those were all heart picks!

I was completely thrown off by Pyle. I thought he was going down, and then BOOM, down goes Neer. The prelims were horrible, but the main card fights really delivered.
